Fall Is a Great Time to Live in Oak Creek

There’s something about September in Wisconsin.

The summer heat starts to disappear, football is back, the leaves are getting ready to change, and suddenly spending a Saturday outside sounds a lot more appealing than it did when it was 90 degrees.

If you live in an apartment in Oak Creek—or you’re considering moving here—fall is also a particularly good time to explore the community.

Start Saturday at the Oak Creek Farmers Market

The Oak Creek Farmers Market takes place every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Drexel Town Square and continues through October 24 this year.

September is actually one of the better times to go. The city describes this as peak season, with vendors offering everything from fresh vegetables and flowers to eggs, breads, sweets and locally raised meats. There’s also food, live music and activities that make the market more than simply a place to buy groceries.

For an apartment resident, there’s another advantage: you can buy fresh produce without needing a garden—or spending your Saturday maintaining one.

Spend Some Time at Drexel Town Square

Even when the Farmers Market isn’t operating, Drexel Town Square has become one of Oak Creek’s gathering places.

The development combines restaurants, shops, apartments and public spaces with Oak Creek City Hall and the Oak Creek Public Library. There are also walking trails and the Emerald Preserve wetlands nearby.

That gives you plenty of ways to turn a quick trip into an afternoon. Grab lunch, walk around the square, visit the library or take a walk through the preserve.

Get Outside Before Wisconsin Reminds Us It’s Wisconsin

Oak Creek has considerably more outdoor recreation than many people realize.

The city promotes a variety of parks, walking and biking trails, recreational facilities and access to the Lake Michigan shoreline.

And fall may be the best time to enjoy them. The temperatures are cooler, the mosquitoes are becoming less ambitious, and Wisconsin’s fall colors are about to put on their annual show.

There’s More Coming This Fall

Oak Creek isn’t shutting down when summer ends.

The city has CAFE: A Celebration of Culture, Arts, Food and Entertainment scheduled for September 19, followed by its Fall Festival on October 24. Both feature food, entertainment, local businesses and family activities.

The Farmers Market season also concludes October 24, making that a particularly busy fall weekend at Drexel Town Square.

Thinking About an Apartment in Oak Creek?

One of Oak Creek’s advantages is that you don’t have to choose completely between suburban living and access to Milwaukee.

Oak Creek sits along Lake Michigan south of Milwaukee, with convenient access to I-94/41 and General Mitchell International Airport. At the same time, Oak Creek has increasingly developed its own restaurants, shopping, recreation and community events.

If you’re apartment hunting, that’s worth thinking about.

Square footage, rent, parking and amenities certainly matter when choosing an apartment. But you’re not just choosing an apartment.

You’re choosing where you’ll live after you walk out the front door.

And fall is a pretty good time to see what living in Oak Creek looks like.
