5 Tips to Deter Thieves from Breaking into Your Car

One way to deter thieves is to store your car in one of the three car garages at The Oaks at 8100.  Then there’s the two car attached garages and underground parking as well, but not everyone is fortunate enough to live at a Decker Properties Apartment.

For anyone parking outside, here are five tips on how to deter thieves from breaking into your car:

  1. Lock all the car doors. Seems simple, but often thieves are just opportunistic.  Don’t tempt them with an easy score.
  2. Don’t leave valuables in your car. In fact, don’t leave anything in your car, not even so much as a piece of paper.  A determined thief may wonder what valuable item is being hidden under the paper.  Keep your car clean and clear and broadcast to thieves that there is nothing there worth stealing.
  3. Get to know the neighbors. If all the neighbors know each other, then thieves that don’t belong will stand out.  And neighbors that are concerned about each other are more likely to call the police.
  4. Don’t attempt to hide a key. Keys under the floor matt, hood or wheel well are way to obvious and way to easy for thieves to check quickly.  Being sloppy here could mean your car is stolen, not just broke in to.
  5. Consider a security alarm. Keep the warning stickers in your window or on the dash.  This broadcasts to criminals and mischief makers that they should move on to easier targets.

A few thoughtful moments will keep you and your car safe!
